Lowry confirms €55,000 for Newport Daycare Centre

18th August 2009

The Newport Day Care Centre will this week be receiving a cheque for €55,000 for the purchase of a new bus to serve the local community.

Welcoming the news Independent Deputy Michael Lowry said that he was “delighted to be in a position to assist in bringing a successful outcome to the centre’s application, especially in the current economic climate.”

The replacement of the ageing bus that helped get elderly users of the facility from Newport and the communities surrounding the villages, was a priority for the centre.

The funding for the bus has come from National Lottery sources, administered by the Department of Health.

The North Tipp TD added that it had taken a lot of work over the last few months, working with staff at the centre and the Department of Health to help deliver the funding.

Lowry commended the management and staff of the Centre in Newport for their persistence, effort and enthusiasm to ensure that the services of the Newport Day Care Centre would be maximised.

The new bus will be fully equipped to meet the needs of the users of the facility.

Deputy Lowry said that

“The old bus would was in constant use and gave great service to the centre. The delivery of a new bus will ensure that the vital work of the centre will continue into the future, and the efforts of Sr. Anne and her hard working team will continue to pay dividends to Newport.”
