Lowry Confirms €1.4 million Funding for Rehab Care Facility

30th January 2009

Deputy Michael Lowry has confirmed approved funding of €1,397,329 for a Day Center and Special Needs Housing Accommodation for the Rehab Group in Thurles.

This funding is provided under Department of Environment’s Capital Assistance Scheme for voluntary housing projects.

This will be permanent facility to accommodate the long established Rehab Care group who have been working out of old and unsuitable accommodation at the old sugar factory building in Thurles.

The new residential facility will be located near the current Government buildings at Stradavoher, and next to the Frank Dwane Center in Thurles.

Planning had been approved since 2007 for the facility for the Rehab Group to build day resource centre, two supported residential units for people with disabilities, site entrance and associated site development works.

Expressing his delight at the news Lowry said:

“This funding has been a long time coming for the town, and comes as a major boost for the Rehab Care and their Team working out of the old Sugar factory in Cabra.

Local people with a disability will soon have the use of a state of the art daycare centre and access to accommodation units in the town if they so wish. This will undoubtedly represent a great boost in the quality of life for the users of the new facility once it is built.”- concluded the Thurles based Deputy.
