Independent Deputy Michael Lowry has conveyed his deep concerns to the Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, over the recommendations in the ‘Bord Snip’ Report that the Rural Transport Scheme was to be cut.
Having made a strong case for the retention of the scheme, the Thurles based Deputy has requested that the Minister bring forward his concerns directly into the budgetary discussions at cabinet level.
Lowry met with many of the users of the scheme at a gathering in Nenagh on Friday, where they outlined their concerns and fears over any scraping of the service.
